Beach shoes have evolved significantly over the last few years. Gone are the days when flip-flops and Birkenstock’s (remember that not all Birkenstock’s are waterproof so choose the ones you’ll wear to the beach wisely) were your only option. Though who can really live without a nice comfy pair of Birkenstock’s or 12? Today there are all kinds of shoes made specifically to wear to the beach.

From netted athletic shoes made for running and walking just along the edge of the water to jelly shoes, flip-flops, and dozens of varieties in between it is now more than ever possible to not only have shoes that are practical to wear to the beach, but fashionable in this endeavor as well.

Shoes say a lot about the wearer, there is really no exception for beach shoes. Any old flip-flops say the wearer isn’t very concerned about their foot fashion. Of course there are flip-flops with embellishments that make them a little more fashionable than the dollar store variety. A nice pair of Birkenstock’s says the wearer is wisely more concerned with quality and comfort than following trends. Impractical beach shoes or those that are likely to need repairs after coming into contract with water and/or sand say the owner has more money than sense. And shoes that are funky and fashionable and made for the beach say the wearer is fashionably chic.

When choosing the right beach shoes for you it is important that you consider what your beachside activities are going to be. If you want to run along the shoreline, you might want to purchase a pair of the beach friendly athletic shoes that are relatively new. If you want to be fashionable go for some of the trendy beach shoes, if you want the ultimate in comfort go for a nice pair of Birkenstock’s, and flip-flops are always an old fall back that have been the shoe of choice of beach goers for ages.

Silk is most deserving to be adorned with the title “the queen of textiles”. Silk scarves have proven that they are no fashion trend and will be around for years to come. These fashion scarves tend to last through not only the current winter season but for years when properly cared for.

In the winter, one of the most important things is to stay warm, and silk scarves definitely help you achieve that goal. Silk is a great material for keeping yourself warm. Silk is a very comfortable fabric to wear, since it is moisture-absorbing. Therefore in the warmer months, it moves moisture away from your body and helps you remain cool. An opposite outcome is observed during colder months. Silk absorbs body heat which creates more insulation.

Yo Ho me hearties!! We all love a swashbuckling pirate fancy dress party. It’s easy to either buy costumes online or to make your own from some old clothes.

Buying your pirate fancy dress – If you want an authentic pirate fancy dress, buy your costume online. They’re a good price, well made and you’ll find lots of choice. You can choose from a lowly rogue pirate, a Captain Hook or an authentic Captain Jack Sparrow outfit from Pirates of the Caribbean. They come with belts, buckles, trousers and waistcoats. Check whether the costume comes with accessories such as pirate hats and swords. Usually the price will determine what’s included. Boots are an extra but some outfits have boot covers you can wear over your normal footwear.

Making your pirate fancy dress – If you can find some unwanted clothes, you can easily make your own pirate costume. All you’ll need is a pair of old trousers and a shirt. If you haven’t got anything suitable, check out your local charity shops.

Breeches - Make the breeches from an old pair of trousers. Black or grey is ideal, but any colour will do. Cut the trousers off to just below the knee, leaving enough fabric for the hem. Turn the hem up, either by sewing or by using an iron-on tape. Most supermarkets or online stores will stock a tape specially designed for hemming. Wear a wide leather black belt or make one from a frayed piece of rope.

Shirt - White shirts look fabulous and will give your fancy dress a Captain Jack Sparrow look; but any colour shirt will work well. Use a shirt that is at least one or two sizes bigger than you would normally wear. Shred the shirt into tatters and fray the cuffs or cut the sleeves to three quarter length. Cut off the collar. Leave the raw edges fraying or turn them under to neaten them. Wear the shirt tucked into your breeches so it billows out, or leave it loose.

Pirates are portrayed with heavy black eyes, so wear eye make up to capture the dark, brooding pirate look. Wear a black eye patch and a long black curly wig. Beards and taches add a touch of class, but are optional. Not all pirates have beards!
